Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:10-13
Woe and Sorrow
Despair is often an evidence of the devils work against us. If the spirit can be broken a man will stop his progression for Christ. The devils work of despair is not always to goad you into wrong but rather it is sometimes a wrong done against you freezing your steps. Proverbs 18:14, “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?”
Many times despair comes as negative news. Often its a life event that brings grief. Disappointments are always willing to dredge themselves up into all the places of our life. Pain almost always rides on the wings of negative news. It is far to often that negativity becomes a tool to work discouragement. To be discouraged is to be discharged of you courage. It is much like a punch to the gut that ejects a man of his breath. In this fashion an attack on mans spirit rids him of his spiritual zeal. A man with no courage is lifeless in his spiritual progression. He is limp from a momentary lapse of his strength. He has no heart to fight for the things of Christ but is rather passive and happy to not be in the war. This man has been hurt in battle. Flaming arrows have struck him deeply penetrating into his emotion. Wrath has injected a scorching blow to his being. The inside becomes one part callus and the other part wounded. When we are in such a condition it is as if someone has poured cement into our shoes and tied weights around our heart. The feet are too heavy to move on. The heart is stooped down in agony.
Perhaps it is friendly fire that has clipped our wings. What if those who are supposed to be on the same side took aim and pierced our heart? Allow for another scenario. What if you were not the object of direct fire? What if a poorly aimed comment diverted course and it hit you without intention? What do we do in these situations?
1) Remember our frailty and weakness. Even the best the saints can become a puppet and pawn in the devils deceitful schemes.
2) Don't loose all heart. Never forget who the real enemy is, the devil and not your fellow man.
3) Understand what you have in Christ. You posses the ability to heal and the armament needed to deflect the next inevitable assault. Read through the armor of God and ask God to fit you with each piece.
4) Draw closer to the Savior. His interest is never taken off you. He will provide your joy and strength when you abandon all to Him.
God recovers His own and in His time the Spirit of grace and prayer will heal the injuries and strengthen the heart. You will feel lively once again. All things work for the good and even this shall pass. Shortly you will feel spree again. Soon you will labor joyfully as you did when you were freshly anointed. When Christ whispers, “Be of good cheer. It is I.” sorrows melt and the sun once again bursts through the grayish skies of despair. Where life is, even if it is tender and frail, the warmth of the sun will cause growth again.
